Story of My Life: Rocking the Ukelele

How do I describe my friend Sarah Buchanan? Well, there’s her amazing hair, her sense of humor, her awesome style, the fact that she plays multiple cool instruments (think ukelele and cello…yeah, she picked the cool ones!) aaaand she’s a dancer and all around super creative person. Do you want to be friends with her yet? Good! You should get to know her if you ever have the chance, she’s great! We got to hang out today and it was, as always, a delightful time!

Sarah made this!

Story of My Life: Making New Friends

A few weeks ago I went to Queen City Church for the first time for a worship night and happened to sit right next to a lovely young woman named Sarah. When it was over I asked what she did and low and behold she works with Back To The Roots, which is a non-profit run by a guy named Caleb who I met in Kansas City, MO a couple of years ago.  I heard that she was running the Charlotte office of BTTR a few months about but wasn’t sure how to get into contact with her.  Small world huh?!  I love it when stuff like this happens!  Sarah and I decided that we needed to get together and be friends so I invited her over to my house for breakfast! What a delightful time!

I couldn’t get over the vibrant colors in these oranges!!  :)

I love meeting new friends! The world is going to hear more from this woman.

Story of My Life: Pretty Skies

Today I took what was intended to be a short nature walk that turned into a full blown adventure, complete with taking a new trail that led me down to a lovely sandly bank by a quietly flowing stream.  This trail also took me in the opposite direction of my car when I thought it was taking me back to it.  :)   Gotta love adventures!  I was on an artist date – an excursion that is solely for the purpose of refilling my creative well, finding beautiful things that make me feel alive and that stimulate that artistic side of me, so that I have creativity to pull on later when I need it.  Because I was trying to refill and not work I did not take my SLR with me, but I did snap a few pictures on my little whiteberry (I have a blackberry that is white and my friends call it a whiteberry haha!) that I thought I’d share with you!  The sky was too pretty not to capture at all!

If you want to read the full detailed account of my adventure you can check it out here. :)   Happy adventuring!

Story of My Life: Letting the Song Out

I’ve been spending a bit of time on my guitar this week, developing calluses and working on songwriting.  At times it seems that the song inside is just aching to come out and the most productive thing to do is pause in my work and let my creativity flow.  It seems like once I do that “productivity” can be resumed with more results.  :)   Funny how that works!

Story of My Life: Dilworth

Oh hey there!  You remember my friend Sarah Bryan don’t you?  She’s the fabulous interior designer, artist, and creator of Aisle14Designs, not to mention one of my dear friends.  I love hanging out with Sarah, our styles and cultures are so different and yet we get along so well!  She is the consummate modern, yet classic, Southern young lady and I am a laid back, slightly hippie, Westerner. It is amazing how many kindred spirits there are in the world, such a delightful discovery!  We went to Dilworth to check out the new design of Dilworth Coffee and get a hot drink on such an overcast day.  It’s amazing how much design makes an impact in the atmosphere of a place, this design felt solid, mature, and yet vibrant.  Not to mention that it had great light which is always a plus in my book!

We sat and enjoyed our dirty chai lattes (chai with a shot of espresso in it) and then decided to risk the chance of rain and set out to explore the area.  Meandering through shopping areas and then into quaint neighborhood streets until our feet hurt while discussing (with many rabbit trails intermingled) creative community, the houses we liked, and the merits of various designs was the gist of our afternoon.  We never did get rained on, the weather was just perfect! This was one of my favorites from the day.

If you would like to see more, there are more pictures (though there will be a couple of doubles) and a bit more commentary here. :)   Enjoy!
