Story of My Life: Dilworth

Oh hey there!  You remember my friend Sarah Bryan don’t you?  She’s the fabulous interior designer, artist, and creator of Aisle14Designs, not to mention one of my dear friends.  I love hanging out with Sarah, our styles and cultures are so different and yet we get along so well!  She is the consummate modern, yet classic, Southern young lady and I am a laid back, slightly hippie, Westerner. It is amazing how many kindred spirits there are in the world, such a delightful discovery!  We went to Dilworth to check out the new design of Dilworth Coffee and get a hot drink on such an overcast day.  It’s amazing how much design makes an impact in the atmosphere of a place, this design felt solid, mature, and yet vibrant.  Not to mention that it had great light which is always a plus in my book!

We sat and enjoyed our dirty chai lattes (chai with a shot of espresso in it) and then decided to risk the chance of rain and set out to explore the area.  Meandering through shopping areas and then into quaint neighborhood streets until our feet hurt while discussing (with many rabbit trails intermingled) creative community, the houses we liked, and the merits of various designs was the gist of our afternoon.  We never did get rained on, the weather was just perfect! This was one of my favorites from the day.

If you would like to see more, there are more pictures (though there will be a couple of doubles) and a bit more commentary here. :)   Enjoy!

Story of My Life: Inspire & Encourage

Yesterday I had the privilege of hanging out with a woman who I admire a great deal. Her name is Susan Card and she is an artist. But she is also so much more than an artist. She is also a woman on a journey, with a story, who has had a plethora of experience in her life. In a lot of ways she has been there and done that in the art world. She is also a woman who is willing to share her wisdom, journey, experience, and plain raw truth as she sees it with others, especially younger others. It honors me when older women are willing to not just be real, but to be real in such a way that they allow the things they have encountered and experienced to either help, warn, or encourage me in my process. That is the joy of going through hard things and overcoming, so that you can turn around and spare others from walking through those same things or speed them through it by the authority of your story, your breakthrough, your life.

Susan is someone who will tell you if she likes something or not. She is not afraid. There are people who inspire you, whose work you see and admire from a distance. But then there are those who encourage you, who come along side you and put their words and actions with their experience and love and spur you on to what you were made to do. I think we need both. I want to be both for other people! It’s always so encouraging when someone compliments your work, and when someone who knows what they are doing praises your work it has so much weight and impact. It is amazing when someone who inspires you also encourages you!

Anna Grace.Newborn Preview { Charlotte Newborn Photographer }

This week I got to go take pictures of an adorable little new baby girl named Anna Grace.  She and her Momma were very sweet to work with and I think I can truly say that a good time was had by all.  Here’s just a preview to whet your visual appetite!  :)

Trammell Family & Joel Michael’s Six Month Portraits

I got to go home to Colorado for the holidays this year which was quite lovely!  I had several adventures that will be related in subsequent posts.  I also got to have a little reunion with the marvelous Trammell family!  You may remember baby Joel Michael from his newborn portraits that I took back in July.  He has grown and changed quite a bit since then, as babies are apt to do, and his parents wanted to get some family portraits along with 6-month portraits of the little man.  We headed out on what turned out to be a sunny, pretty day in early January and took these around Olde Town Arvada.  Such a treat!  It’s so fun to get to help chronicle the beginning stages in the life of a little human being!  He’s off to a great start!

Story of My Life: Uptown Charlotte & the Lightrail

Yesterday was a beautiful day! It was supposed to be a high of 64 and sunny. In January. I know, crazy right?! You’d think I’d be used to it after Colorado’s schizophrenic weather but after a few weeks of overcast skies I was in need of more sunshine! My friends Geoff and Calun treated me and let me tag along with them and their two cuties and we all rode the Charlotte light rail for the first time. :) Such an adventure!

This is where we started.

Annabelle is such a ham for the camera, as soon as she sees it she turns on this HUGE grin!

Judah was very excited to be riding the choo choo train!

Our stop near the Epicentre.

Me & the Judah man. :)

The columns of quotes outside the Library are so great!

Beautiful sunset on the way home. :)

This was very exciting to me because I’ve been wanting to explore Uptown Charlotte more and I realized just how accessible it is and where some sweet things are that I want to go back to! What is your favorite place in Charlotte, or your city?

Story of My Life: Amelies with Ashley

The other day my house mate Ashley, who is about to move herself, and I got up early to see one of our other roomies off on the next lap of her race back in PA. Since we were up we decided to head down to Amelies. Yay for awesome French bakeries that have (of course) french press coffee and some delectable gluten free treats! Oh, and beautiful light, let’s not forget that.

This was Ashley’s treat of choice, a Key Lime Tart. My mouth is watering just looking at the picture.

And my treat, succulent Almond Tea Cakes (made with almond flour) in almond and lemon flavors.

I made her put on her glasses indoors because I wanted to get one of her with those sweet aviators in this amazing light. :)

Something Pretty – A Foggy Day

Yesterday was foggy and overcast and gray and melancholy and lovely and romantic and haunting and picturesque so I decided to push past my desire to stay warm and cozy inside and set out to try to capture a bit of it.

This is what my street looked like by the time I was done.
